What’s Happening in the Queen City

CHARLOTTE, NC — Mark you calendars! Moira Quinn with Charlotte Center City partners has the top events to check out this month.

Parking Day

Friday, September 20th

10:00 – 6 pm

Uptown, South End, Plaza Midwood
FREE

Charlotte PARK(ing) Day takes place Friday, September 20, when a short stretch of Camden Road in South End and Tryon Street in Uptown (plus one in Plaza Midwood) will be peppered with pop-up parklets from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, reclaiming a tiny parcel of green space from the asphalt jungle. Architects, designers, engineers, city planners and other creatives from around town bring their small teams and imagination to create something new in a blank slate. Previous years have seen every iteration, from a mini dog park to an outdoor greenhouse to a tiny beachfront. All are safely removed from traffic but mere feet from the thoroughfares usually reserved for drivers. Take a walk and enjoy the greenery and the scenery!

Uptown Flea
Saturday, September 21st
11 am – 4 pm
406 N. Tryon St. – Uptown
FREE

Uptown Flea is exactly what Uptown Charlotte needed, something rad to do on the weekends within the bounds of the city. With just over 55 tented vendors selling their wares, to multiple food trucks, live music, beer, and everything else you never knew you wanted at a flea market. We’re curating Charlotte’s best micro-retailers in a flea market setting, where anything goes under these tents. Uptown Flea is part of an ongoing effort by Charlotte Center City Partners to animate and activate the North Tryon corridor – as we prepare for upcoming development that will add vibrancy to the North Tryon area. This event is put on in partnership with CCCP and Mecklenburg County.
