Garinger High Student Seriously Injured After Being Hit By Vehicle

CHARLOTTE, NC — A 16-year-old Garinger High School student was seriously injured Thursday afternoon after being hit by a vehicle in east Charlotte.

The accident happened around 2:22pm on Eastway Drive at E. Sugar Creek Road in front of Garinger High. Police say the student was crossing the road in a marked crosswalk but did not have the right of way.

A 2015 Acura TLX was traveling with a green light through the intersection, according to witnesses, when the student crossed and was hit.

Arriving officers found the student lying in the roadway with life threatening injuries. Medic transported him to Atrium Health’s CMC where officials say he remains in critical condition.

Investigators say impairment is not suspected on the part of the driver or student, and speed is also not considered a contributing factor to the accident.

The student’s name has not yet been released.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
