All Clear Given After Several UNC Charlotte Buildings Evacuated Due To Gas Leak

Officials with UNC Charlotte say the valve for the gas line at the Science Building construction site has been shut off and the area is safe.

The message was sent on the NinerAlerts Twitter page. Officials say other area of campus should not have any interruption to their gas service.

CHARLOTTE, NC — The University of North Carolina Charlotte says several buildings have been evacuated due to a gas leak at the Science Building construction site.

The alert was issued by UNC Charlotte shortly before 11am. Officials say the construction site, Hickory, Sycamore and Cedar halls have all been evacuated as a precaution.

Roadways surrounding the site of the leak have also been blocked off, officials say, while crews assess the situation.
