Swim Teams From Queens University Among National Champions Honored At White House
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The national champions from Queens University of Charlotte men’s and women’s swim teams were honored today at the White House.
President Donald Trump met with athletes and coaches from 22 collegiate national championship teams on Friday.
As the only Division II program invited to the 11 a.m. NCAA National Champion event, the five-time national champion Queens’ swimmers celebrated their achievement amongst more than 400 athletes from universities across the United States.
“We are proud of these young women and men for what they have accomplished. It is an unprecedented achievement, especially considering the Queens’ swim program was launched in 2010 and our swimmers did not have their own pool until 2013. We are thankful for the outstanding leadership and vision of head coach Jeff Dugdale, and congratulate our swimmers and coaches for earning this honor,” said Queens University Athletic Director Cherie Swarthout.
The Queens’ swimmers also carry an impressive 3.52 cumulative grade point average for the 2018-2019 academic year.
Swarthout praised the dual achievement saying, “Queens has achieved recognition as a university where academics and athletics not only coexist, but thrive. We attribute this to our athletes who believe that Queens is a place where learning is a privilege, competing is an honor, and winning is a tradition.”
