Mother of Infant Found Dead In Cemetery Involuntarily Committed

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The mother of the 6-month-old boy found dead in a Charlotte cemetery, was involuntarily committed following her arrest.

WCCB News learned Tamara Brown was scheduled for a first court appearance Monday, but that didn’t happen.  She’s due back in court on March 4.  Police say Friday night, Brown was arrested in a Walmart parking lot near Monroe Road, after she allegedly assaulted a man and stole his cell phone.  When police arrived, they say Brown assaulted and spit on them.

Hours after her arrest, police found her baby, Chi-Liam Cody Brown-Erickson, dead in Sharon Memorial Park cemetery.

The baby and his mother, Tamara Brown had been missing since Thursday night from their apartment home on Gander Cove Lane in Matthews.  Brown was found by police Friday night, and was arrested on several charges.  But, her baby was no where to be found.

An Amber Alert was issued Saturday morning.  The child’s body was found hours before at the cemetery.

Homicide detectives are actively working with the Matthews Police Department in this ongoing investigation.

MATTHEWS, N.C. — An Amber Alert has been issued for a 6-month-old baby boy after police located the mom without her child.

Tamara Jernal Brown, who was reported missing on Thursday, was arrested by CMPD on Friday around 10 p.m. from a reported incident from the Galleria Blvd. area. When Brown was arrested her son Chi-Liam Cody Brown-Erickson was not with her and his location remains unknown.

According to officials, Brown has been charged with Common Law Robbery and two counts of Assault on a Government Official.

MATTHEWS, N.C. — The Matthews Police Department is asking for the public’s help to locate a mother and child.

Tamara Jernal Brown, who suffers from a mental health disability, has been missing from the Gander Cove Lane area of Matthews since Thursday around 10 p.m., according to a news release.

Brown was last seen walking with her child around uptown Charlotte on Friday around noon.
