Allegiant Airlines to Establish Base Operations at Concord-Padgett Regional Airport
CHARLOTTE, NC – A major economic boost to Cabarrus County after Allegiant Airlines announced plans to establish base operations at Concord-Padgett Regional Airport.
The details released during a Wednesday news conference point to long term growth and dozens of jobs in the area.
“Very simple. Very convenient,” said Amy Honeycutt.
The Concord resident says she has flown Allegiant Airlines five times.
“A very good thing for Allegiant to be here in our hometown,” said Honeycutt.
More than 350,000 people passed through Concord Padgett Regional Airport in 2019. That number is expected to grow.
Las Vegas based Allegiant Air announced Wednesday that Concord will be it’s newest hub. Two airplanes will be based at the airport.
The move brings 66 new jobs and the potential to add on to the current seven destinations.
Part of the expansion includes a 5,000 square foot maintenance building that airport staff says will be operational by September.
“What that really means long term is additional growth for the airport as well as for Allegiant airlines,” explained Dirk Vanderleest. He is the airport aviation director.
Vandeerleest says the hub will lead to an economic expansion.
“The average salary of those employees is about 80 thousand dollars,” said Vanderleest.
Allegiant currently flies from Concord to New Orleans, and six destinations in Florida. Economic leaders hope the growth will bring more visitors.
“Our research shows there are actually people on those flights that are coming in here originating from places like Florida and Ft Lauderdale and Sanford,” said John Mills with the Cabarrus County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
