Homicide Investigation Underway After Victim Shot, Killed While Being Treated In Ambulance

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The suspect in the south Charlotte homicide investigation has been charged with murder after a victim was shot and killed while being treated by MEDIC.

According to a news release, officers responded to a disturbance call at a Day’s Inn on E. Woodlawn Road near Nations Crossing Road around 3:50 a.m. Wednesday.

MEDIC was also dispatched to the location to treat one of the individuals involved in the disturbance.

According to CMPD, while the MEDIC was treating the victim in an ambulance the suspect shot the victim. The victim, who has been identified as 34-year-old Jeremy Whitted, died as a result of the injuries.

The suspect was immediately taken into custody following this incident and identified as 32-year-old Prentice Bess, according to a news release. After interviewing Bess, he was been charged with murder.

The paramedics on the scene were not injured during this incident.

This is an ongoing, active investigation.
