“With the way we have access to video we could have the TV and the news on all day long and I think that really increases peoples anxiety,” said Leddy.
Leddy encourages people to stay informed, but be conscious of how much time their spending focused on news and media.
She also says not to lose contact with the people we’re familiar with.
“There are so many ways for us to stay connected. So texting FaceTime and social media. That’s all really useful and healthy especially now,” said Leddy.
Other health experts in Mecklenburg county are encouraging people to get outdoors and take in some fresh air; just as long as you’re keeping your social distance.
For parents, working at home with their children is a major adjustment. Leddy suggests keeping meals simple and finding ways for the children to connect.
“Really using all the online resources that schools are providing and teachers are providing right now,”said Leddy.
Leddy says a positive outlook and the understanding that life will return to normal at some point, can go a long way to preserving mental health.
“Find ways to reduce stress and enjoy your time together as a family. Get creative,” said Leddy.
