CHARLOTTE, N.C. — CMPD is conducting an investigation after a fatal crash in southwest Charlotte.
Officers responded to Erwin Road off of Steele Creek Road around 8 p.m. on Sunday where they found a 2006 Lexus struck a tree.
According to officers, the driver was the only occupant of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver has been identified as 47-year-old Thaddeus Olvin Dewese.
After an initial investigation it was revealed that the car was driving at an excessive speed east on the road when it left the roadway to the left and hit the tree.
The Lexus was the sole vehicle in the incident.
According to a news release, the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and alcohol use is suspected.
This crash remains under investigation.
