CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Officials have closed all the sporting courts at Mecklenburg County parks, according to a Facebook post by Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation.
The closure comes on the heels of Mecklenburg County Health Director Gibbie Harris stating in a news conference over the weekend that people were not following social distancing guidelines at local parks and that further measures were going to have to happen due to people failing to following the orders from the Mecklenburg County ‘Stay at Home’ proclamation.
Photos from over the weekend showed county parks packed with people playing sports, picnicking, and hanging out with large groups of friends. Health officials are desperately pleading to the public to follow the ‘Stay at Home’ order so they can flatten the curve for the amount of people being diagnosed with the coronavirus.
