CHARLOTTE, N.C. –CMPD responded to a single vehicle crash in West Charlotte early Monday that left one person dead and two seriously injured.
According to a news release, upon arriving at the incident that happened a little after 1 a.m. on Sage Avenue, nearby Bid-N-Win on Brookshire Blvd., officers located a 2014 Honda Civic that had struck a tree.
The vehicle had three occupants. The Honda had extensive front-end damage and the driver was trapped inside.
Medic and CFD responded to the scene and the driver was pronounced deceased, according to a news release. The front and rear passengers were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
The driver has been identified as Miracle Lewis,17, and the passengers have been identified as Alia Rae Marie Coker and Jon’na Antonia Belin. Both passengers are 16-years-old. All occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
According to CMPD, after an initial investigation it has been revealed that the Honda was speeding while traveling south on Carrier Drive. The Honda then entered a curve in the road to the right and was traveling too fast to negotiate the curve and continued straight, leaving the roadway.
The Honda sideswiped a guardrail, drove through a chain-link fence, and continued straight until the front of the Honda struck a tree.
In addition, the evidence gathered at the scene suggest another vehicle may have been involved, possibly an older dark-colored Audi.
