Two Lincoln County Deputies Released From Hospital After Fatal Shootout, Suspect Identified

Two Lincoln County deputies who were shot Monday while trying to serve warrants to a domestic violence suspect have been released from the hospital, according to the sheriff’s office.
According to deputies, while attempting to serve four warrants the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Corey Lee Culter, began shooting at the officers resulting in Deputy W. Spurling being struck in the face by shotgun pellets and Deputy B. Alexander being struck in the arm.
Both deputies have been treated for their injuries and released. Under the sheriff’s office policy several officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave during the investigation.
Lincoln County Sheriff Bill Beam said, “This shooting of my officers and Mr. Cutler is a tragedy for my officers, the community, Mr. Cutler and his family. We appreciate the community prayers for our officers and the Cutler family.”
The North Carolina SBI is investigating the incident.

LINCOLNTON, N.C. — Two Lincoln County deputies were injured in a shooting while serving warrants to a suspect Monday who was killed during the incident.
Deputies responded around 12:15 p.m. to a domestic disturbance on Gaston Webbs Chapel Road. After clearing the call they learned that the man living at the residence had four outstanding warrants.
According to deputies, when they returned to the home to serve the warrants the suspect retreated into a block building on the property and began firing at the officers.
He shot two deputies and was then shot and killed when officers returned fire.
One deputy was transported to Atrium Health –Main in Charlotte where he is being treated for shotgun pellets to the face. The other deputy was struck in the arm by shotgun pellets and was being treated at Atrium Health – Lincoln.
The name of the suspect has not been released.
The North Carolina SBI is investigating the incident.
