The Oscars Take Affirmative Action
Oscars make change in racial disparity
In an attempt to solve its racial disparity problems, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is attaching some new requirements to be eligible for the Oscars ‘Best Picture’.
A film must meet two of four requirements to be nominated. Which include: At least one character or significant supporting actor be from an under-represented racial or ethnic group. At least 30% of the secondary roles be at least two under-represented groups. Storyline centered on under-represented groups. Or leadership in the creative departments be from under-represented groups.
