CMPD Requesting Public’s Help Identifying Car Involved In Deadly East Charlotte Hit-And-Run Crash
The Latest (9/14/20):
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit are requesting the public’s assistance in locating the car that was involved in a fatal east Charlotte hit-and-run accident.
The vehicle has been identified as a red Ford Fusion or Ford Focus, which appears to have black wheels. The car which was last seen at the scene of the crash may also have damage to one of the fog lights or turn signals, police say.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating an east Charlotte hit-and-run collision that left a man dead early Sunday morning.
According to police, the collision occurred shortly before 3:40 a.m. on East Independence Boulevard, nearby Legion Brewing.
Officers responded to the area after a “check-the-welfare” call for service. Police say upon arrival they located 22-year-old Cameron Cook unconscious and in the roadway. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say according to an initial investigation the pedestrian was walking in the right lane of inbound East Independence Boulevard when he was struck by an unknown vehicle at the Brookshire Boulevard and John Belk Freeway split.
The area where the crash occurred was poorly lit, police say. The driver that hit Cook left the scene, but a passerby called 911.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.
