Biden Touts Relief For Minority Owned Small Businesses During Charlotte Visit

CHARLOTTE, NC-  Democratic presidential challenger Joe Biden spent Wednesday in Charlotte.

“I’ve been waiting on this moment for a long time,” said Frankie McCorey who was standing outside the event.

“Change. We need more changes in this country,” said McCorey.

Biden spoke to a small group of people including Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles, NBA player Chris Paul, and local business owners for a Black Economic Summit. The event held at Camp North end.

“The African American community, by and large, finds itself at the bottom of the economic heap when businesses and others when things are good. When things get bad, they’re the first ones in the hole. When things get better, they’re the last one’s out,” said Biden.

“I like that he actually has a plan in mind for us and money set up,” said Subrina Collier.

She’s the owner of Uptown Yoke and Leah and Louise in Charlotte. Her Restaurants have been hit hard by the pandemic. She wanted to know what Joe Biden would do to help.

“He had a plan in saying there is money set aside for small business owners. I have money for you to operate. I have money for you to get inventory. I have money for your payroll. That’s what I needed to hear,” said Collier.

Biden, who’s in a statistical tie with President Trump in North Carolina polls, touted a spending plan that would set aside $70 billion for HBCUs and roughly $150 billion for minority-owned small businesses.

“Ultimately, the African American community only is going to have its places equal to everyone else when they’re able to be in a position to build wealth,” said Biden.

Biden’s visit included a stop at Mertz Heart & Soul in Uptown.

President Trump will be holding a rally at Charlotte Douglas International Airport on Thursday afternoon.
