Warming Up; Latest on Hurricane Delta

Another pleasant day on tap with highs reaching the upper 70s this afternoon. We’re on a warming trend with the 80s returning to the forecast mid-week. Dry through Thursday. Big cool down Friday with highs not getting out of the low 70s with our next system. But, the greater concern will be rain and storms for ourΒ weekend as Hurricane Delta moves closer to the Louisiana coast. There is plenty of time for this storm to shift as it moves over the warm gulf waters. But, it will be bringing heavy rainfall to the Yucatan Peninsula as it absorbs what is left of Gamma. This storm is likely to strengthen to a Major Cat 4 hurricane before brushing along the northern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. This will bring major impacts to spots such as Cozumel, Cancun, Playa Del Carmen with flooding rain, significant storm surge, and damaging wind. From there this storm will have the ability to reintensify in the gulf as it makes a more northeastward turn toward the northern gulf coast – an area that has been a target all season long. It will likely make landfall as a strong category 2 hurricane late Friday, bringing heavy rain to the Carolinas this weekend. Timing and track can still change with this storm, but it is a good idea to have a backup plan for any of those outdoor plans this weekend. Rain chances will likely stretch into early next week.
