SALISBURY, N.C. — A 28-year-old Salisbury woman has been charged after attempting to smuggle drugs into the Rowan County Detention Center, according to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.
Marissa Kaye Cook, who has an extensive criminal history, surrendered at the detention center for a probation violation on Monday, Sept. 28th. When officers conducted a search on Cook, she informed jail staff that that she had contraband concealed in her vaginal cavity.
Cook was able to remove and surrender a syringe wrapped in black tape.
After, she informed deputies that she was unable to retrieve a 5-hour energy bottle that had heroin and methamphetamine concealed in it. Cook was then taken to a Salisbury hospital where the bottle was extracted. Deputies found to contain one gram of heroin and three grams of methamphetamine inside the removed bottle.
According to deputies, Cook was charged with possess with intent to sell/deliver methamphetamine, possess with intent to sell/deliver heroin, and possession of a controlled substance on a prison/jail premises. Cook is awaiting service of the warrants.
Cook has numerous misdemeanor convictions and felony convictions for possession of Schedule I and II controlled substances, deputies say. She also has pending charges in Rowan and Iredell counties for conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possess with intent to sell/deliver heroin.
