HICKORY, N.C. — Police say a 25-year-old man is in critical condition following an early Thursday shooting in Hickory.
The incident happened shortly after 12 a.m. on 18th Street NW.
When officers arrived they found the victim, identified as Nicholas Zachary Rozzelle, lying in the street with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital where he was initially treated prior to being transferred to Carolina’s Medical Center by helicopter.
Rozzelle is listed in critical condition, according to officials.
Through an initial investigation officers determined that Rozzelle was confronted by two black man wearing dark clothing. One of the unknown suspects fired shots at the victim and then they fled the scene on foot.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.
