Deputies: Two Arrested After 5 Kilos Of Meth Seized In Union County Traffic Stop
UNION COUNTY, N.C. — Union County deputies have arrested two people after a traffic stop resulted in the seizure of over five kilos of meth Sunday evening.
The traffic stop happened near the Unionville-Indian Trail Road and US-74 intersection in Indian Trail.
Deputies with the Narcotics Eradication Team (NET) conducted the stop and K-9 Yago made a positive alert for drugs in the vehicle. During the search, the team seized over five kilos of meth following the narcotics investigation.
Deputies arrested 34-year-old Giovanni Hernandez-Zapata and 35-year-old Dalia Chinito-Noyola. Both suspects are in the Union County Jail facing two charges each of Trafficking in Methamphetamine, officials say.
Union County Sheriff Eddie Cathey made the following statement about the arrests:
“This seizure and these arrests proves that hard work and persistence pays off. Our narcotics detectives and the K-9’s assigned to the unit work hard to identify the traffickers responsible for transporting, selling and distributing these dangerous drugs. A seizure of this magnitude does make a difference but we know there is still a lot of work to be done.”
