Man Accused Of Attempting To Break Into Multiple Vehicles At Matthews Hotel Arrested

MATTHEWS, N.C. — The Matthews Police Department says a 22-year-old man is facing charges after attempting to break into multiple vehicles at an InTown Suites Monday evening.

Officers responded around 10:40 p.m. to the hotel located on East Independence Boulevard after reports of a man was checking car door handles to see if they were unlocked.

At the scene, officers located a man, identified as Jose Pena, fitting the suspect’s description inside of a car looking through items. After an investigation, it was discovered that the car did not belong to him along with the electronics and other items that were found in his pockets.

According to officers, Pena was taken into custody, transported to the Mecklenburg County Jail, and charged with two counts of Break or Enter a Motor Vehicle and Misdemeanor Larceny.
