8-Year-Old Dies After Being Shot In The Chest With A BB Gun In Alexander County

ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — Investigators say an 8-year-old has died after being shot in the chest with a BB gun in Alexander County.  The shooting was reported at a home in the Stony Point community on December 20th.

The child was transported to Iredell Memorial Hospital and was evaluated before being transferred to Brenner’s Children’s Hospital in Winston Salem.  Officials say the child went into cardiac arrest while being transported to the children’s hospital.  The child died a short time later.

Investigators with the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office say the injury appears to be accidental, according to a news release.  The shooting reportedly happened when two kids (ages 8 and 7) were shooting a BB gun and a pellet rifle at targets near the family home.

The investigation is continuing but no other details have been release at this time.  Check back for updates.
