TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. — Three teens are facing burglary charges after officers say they forced their way into a home in Taylorsville demanding money and other items.

The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office and the Taylorsville Police Department responded to the burglary around 10:30pm on Saturday, December 26th at a home on Gravel Hill Court after there were reports of shots being fired, according to a news release.

The initial investigation revealed that three teens forced their way into the home which was occupied by a 17-year-old teen and his parents, according to officers.  The suspects reportedly demanded money and other items from inside the home.  Officers say the homeowners chased the suspects out of the residence and into a vehicle that was parked in the driveway.

During that time, police say one of the homeowners fired a weapon at the vehicle.  The vehicle was struck by three bullets as it was leaving the driveway, according to a news release.  No one was injured in the shooting.

A few hours later, police say they took the three suspects into custody.  Further investigation by officers revealed that the suspects had gone to the home on Gravel Hill Court to purchase a controlled substance from the homeowner’s 17-year-old child, according to a news release.

Zachariah Canterbury, 18, of Taylorsville, and Christopher Whorley, 18, of Florida, were charged with common law robbery and 1st degree burglary.  Both suspects were issued $100,000 secured bonds.  A juvenile petition is being sent to the Juvenile Court Counselor for charges on both 17-year-olds involved in the case, according to a news release.

Neither of the 17-year-olds can be identified since they are considered juveniles.  Police say the investigation is ongoing and more charges could be filed.
