Wilson’s World Homeschool: Honoring Challenger Astronaut Dr. Ronald E. McNair and Learning More About the Ronald E. McNair Life History Center

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Those of us who remember the launch of the Challenger Space Shuttle will never forget the feeling of loss and pain when we saw the Challenger explode, killing all of of the astronauts aboard.  One of the brave men that boarded the shuttle that morning was Lake City, South Carolina born astronaut Dr. Ronald E. McNair.  To honor his legacy the city of Lake City opened the Dr. Ronald E. McNair Life History Center in 2011.  Clyde Bess, who was a classmate of Dr. McNair,  joined Wilson this morning to talk about Dr. McNair, his life, and the center which is being developed into a space and technology center dedicated to helping students learn math and science.

The Dr. Ronald E. McNair Life History Center is located in Lake City’s old public library, the museum sits next to Dr. McNair’s gravesite along with a statue and square erected in his honor.  More information on the Dr. Ronald McNair Life History Center can be found HERE.
