Bill Gates Says: Save The Planet, Eat A Fake Steak
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Bill Gates believes the wealthiest countries should switch to eating “100% synthetic beef” in order to help combat climate change. The second-richest man in the world and founder of Microsoft floated his ideas to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in a new interview with MIT’s Technology Review.
Gates said, “You can get used to the taste difference, and the claim is they’re going to make it taste even better over time. Eventually, that green premium is modest enough that you can sort of change the [behavior of] people or use regulation to totally shift the demand.”
Twitter caught wind of Gates’ proclamation and sounded off saying, “Him being the largest farmland owner in the United States but telling everyday Americans to eat synthetic meat is hypocrisy of the highest degree,” and “I don’t see what’s wrong with synthetic meat?”
Synthetic meat is also called lab-grown meat or cultured meat and it is made directly from cells in a laboratory. It is made by growing muscle cells in a nutrient serum and encouraging them into muscle-like fibers.
Gates’ statement comes after an Israeli company and the the Israel Institute of Technology successfully created the first 3D printed rib-eye steak.
Our question of the night: would you switch to synthetic meat because Bill Gates said so?
