Air Travel Hitting New Pandemic High As States Rollback Covid-19 Restrictions

CHARLOTTE — Air travel hitting a new pandemic high as states rollback restrictions and distribute more Covid vaccines.

More people are expected to pass through Charlotte Douglas International Airport this weekend than they have in months.  It comes as many begin spring break and are looking to get away.

TSA says it screened more passengers Friday than it had any day over the past year.  Officials anticipate tomorrow will be the busiest day at Charlotte Douglas with the airport expecting 17-thousand passengers.

There are new safety precautions in place to protect passengers at the airport.  Bipolar Ionization is being used in the airport’s hvac system to disable viruses in the air.  UVC lights are being used to sanitize escalators and moving hand rails.  Also, new air filters are in place to trap airborne particles that carry Covid.
