Family Demands Answers After U. S. Marshals Shoot And Kill A Man In East Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC – What threat – and why did U. S. Marshals choose to serve a warrant in the middle of the day at a busy gas station? The important pieces of information still being investigated after a U. S. Marshal shot and killed a man in East Charlotte on Tuesday.

“What threat did he give? We want to know,” said Kesha Leak, the sister of Frankie Jennings.

Leak became emotional when talking about her brother who was shot at a Plaza Midwood gas station.

“My brother, his life got taken away. We want answers. We want to know,” said Leak.

According to CMPD, the investigating agency, the U. S. Marshals office was serving a warrant on Jennings when they say one of the deputies perceived a lethal threat and fired at Jennings, killing him.

“It’s unacceptable. We want answers. This is somebody’s son here. Somebody’s father, somebody’s brother, somebody’s uncle, somebody’s friend,” said Latannya Jennings.

Jennings was in town visiting Charlotte for her brother’s birthday. She says her nephew was with Frankie Jennings when he was shot.

“It’s kind of devastating that I’m not only not going to celebrate. I’m not going to see him again,” said Jennings.

“I think the most disheartening thing about situations like this is that there are no answers. It’s not a clear cut answers on what’s going on,” said John Barnett, a civil rights activist.

He says he’s helping the family secure legal help. He also says that the 16 warrants Jennings faced don’t equate to a death sentence.

“Yes, there is a lot of warrants out here. I deal with a lot of warrants and he ain’t the only one with warrants,” said Barnett.

“We are uncovering every piece of evidence, that’s video, physical and otherwise,” said CMPD Cpt. Joel McNelly.

CMPD is investigating the shooting and have released few details.

“We did release yesterday that there was a gun recovered, but because of the position of this investigation right now we’re not prepared to discuss exact details,” said McNelly.
