Community Coming Together To Help The Family Of A Cabarrus County Teacher Who Passed Away Suddenly
CABARRUS COUNTY, NC. — Michael Landers was a husband, father, colleague, and mentor, but to the community, he was, even more, says family friend Kimberly Biondi. The Cabarrus County teacher was in the district for 23 years and had a passion for giving back. Landers was involved in several service organizations.
“Michael was wonderful at finding what we have in common and working to build something from there. Just an incredible, incredible person,” Biondi says.
On March 30th, Biondi got a call she never expected.
“My friend Michelle called me crying and told me that Michael had passed. I couldn’t believe it; it wasn’t real. I just sit on the couch and try to process it.”
Biondi says the 46-year-old seemed perfectly healthy and wasn’t sick. They still don’t know how he passed. Landers left behind a wife and two young kids.
“I think that’s a big reason why this is so hard. It came without warning; it was so sudden, it still does not feel real at all.”
Kimberly and her friend started a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral costs. In just one day, the fundraiser surpassed the $10,000 goal to $23,000, and it keeps growing.
“I really think that says something about how many people he is influenced and how many lives he’s touched.”
