Questions Remain Unanswered After Teen Dies In Mount Holly House Fire

MOUNT HOLLY, NC – A Mount Holly mother says she will never stop searching for the truth after her 17 year old son died in a fire.

“I was shaking and trembling. I was in disbelief,” said Bernadette Brassitos.

She is describing the night of April 21st.

“The house is on fire. The smoke is billowing out of the house. And I just knew my son was dead. I just knew it. I knew it. I knew it before I got there,” said Brassitos.

Her son, Gabrielle,  died in the fire on Wood St. in Mount Holly.

“I was panicking. I was hyperventilating,” said Brassitos.

She and her family had moved to the area from Boston, Massachusetts in 2019 to be closer to her parents. She says her son was funny and easygoing.

“Six weeks later; I feel, strong. Strong to fight for my son’s death,” said Brassitos.

Brassitos is digging into what happened that night. She says some things aren’t adding up.

She retrieved Gabriell’s phone records which show his snap chat and phone were used after the fire. The phone is still missing.

“There were 32 outgoing phone calls made after Gabrielle’s death,” she explained.

Police haven’t confirmed the phone records. They also haven’t named the other two people who were in the house at the time of the fire. No arrests have been made.. And the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Mount Holly Police Chief Don Roper Says they’re waiting on a state autopsy and toxicology report.

“No determination regarding the final disposition of the case is made until all the information is gathered,” wrote Chief Roper in an email to WCCB.

Brassitos says she just wants answers and that she is trying to be patient while also seeking the truth.
