CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. — Deputies are still searching for Tyler Terry after several days-long manhunt in Chester County for his involvement in four separate shootings. Now there is a $12,000 reward for information leading to his capture, officials say.
Authorities say a body found overnight Wednesday in Chester County is the husband of the woman charged in the chase involving accused murder suspect Tyler Terry.
33-year-old Eugene Simpson’s body was found on May 19th. Officials say Simpson is the husband of Adrienne Simpson, a woman who was arrested after a chase involving Chester County Deputies.
Euguene Simpson was reported missing in early May, according to the Chester County Coroner’s Office.
Deputies say Adrienne Simpson was with Terry when he fired shots at deputies during a high speed chase.
According to deputies, around 11 p.m. on May 17th a traffic stop was initiated near a closed Bojangles at Edgeland Road and Highway 9 in Richburg. As deputies attempted to approach the suspicious vehicle the driver, later identified as Adrienne Simpson, proceeded to take off and refused to stop which led to a lengthy car chase that lasted around 30 minutes on narrow roads.
During the chase, as cars reached more than 100 mph, shots were fired from the fleeing vehicle at officers. The chase continued even as the law enforcement vehicle had a bullet lodged in the windshield of a cruiser, just above the steering wheel, according to authorities.
Chester County Sheriff Max Dorsey says that the chase ended in a crash and Adrienne Simpson being arrested while Terry, who fired at deputies, escaped.
Adrienne Simpson has been charged with failure to stop for a blue light.
Warrants have been issued for two counts of attempted murder for Terry in reference to the chase. He is also facing murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime charges in connection with a homicide that happened on May 2nd on Lowry Row in York County.
Detectives say they have credible information and evidence linking Terry to the murder of Thomas Durell Hardin.
Additionally, Chester Police Detectives are obtaining warrants for Attempted Murder, Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime, Pointing and Presenting, Injury to Property, and Burglary 1st Degree on Terry stemming from the shooting incidents that occurred on May 2, 2021 at Erlich Street and at Taco Bell on JA Cochran Bypass.
Detectives have also linked Adrienne Simpson to those incidents as well and additional charges for Accessory After the Fact are pending, according to a news release.
One deputy received minor injuries during the chase that happened through York and Chester counties. According to authorities, no other deputies were injured.
The sheriff said Terry and Adrienne Simpson not only put deputies in danger, but threatened other innocent people in both Chester and York counties as they sped along, firing multiple shots.
The deputy whose windshield was struck right in front of the driver’s seat wasn’t hurt “by the grace of God,” he said.
“That shot was one of the first shots fired, but that deputy continued chasing,” Dorsey said.
In Missouri, police say they believe Tyler Terry and Adrienne Simpson are also responsible for two separate fatal shootings in St. Louis.
Terry and Simpson are believed to have shot Dr. Sergei Zacharev during a Saturday night robbery in a restaurant parking lot, and to have shot Barbara Goodkin about 45 minutes later as she sat in her car, using the same weapon in each shooting, according to Brentwood Police Chief Joseph Spiess.
The investigation is ongoing and Terry is still considered armed and extremely dangerous. Neighbors are being asked to stay inside and keep their doors locked until authorities locate and arrest Terry.
The incident in Chester County was the 15th officer involved shooting in South Carolina in 2021.
In 2020, there were 49 officer involved shootings in South Carolina; one involved the Chester County Sheriff’s Office.
