Medium development chance for a wave emerging off the coast of Africa

The National Hurricane Center is highlighting three areas of possible development – one over the central tropical Atlantic, one over the eastern Atlantic and the other just emerging off the coast of Africa.

The tropical wave located over the central Atlantic is very disorganized and as of Friday evening, does not have the best chance for development. 10% over the next 5 days.

There is a new well-defined area of low pressure located over the eastern tropical Atlantic about 1,000 miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands. This has a low 20% chance of tropical formation over the next 5 days.

The wave that is farthest from the United States is near the west coast of Africa and has a medium 50% chance of tropical formation over the next 5 days. Environmental conditions are somewhat favorable for gradual development, therefore, this could become a tropical depression over the weekend. That being said, the long-term survival of this storm is still in question so we will continue to closely monitor.

There is no tropical threat to the United States for at least a week, but with the peak of hurricane season creeping up we will watch all things tropical closely!
