AVERY COUNTY, N.C. — Several campgrounds are currently being evacuated in Avery County amid flooding concerns and Avery County Schools have been closed for August 18th.
Avery County Sheriff Kevin Frye tells WCCB that crews are evacuating people from Down By The River Campground off NC 181 in Pineola and Buck Hill Campground off US Highway 19E in Newland.
People are also being evacuated from Linville Land Harbor which is also located in Newland.
Flooding has been a concern as rain from Tropical Depression Fred continues to fall in the area.
Avery County Schools will be closed on Wednesday, August 18th due to flooding, power outages and downed trees.
