COVID-19 Outbreak Reported At Lancaster County Schools – 102 Positive Cases, 617 Quarantined

LANCASTER, S.C. — A COVID-19 outbreak has been reported within the Lancaster County School District. Officials with the Lancaster County School District say 30 staff members and 72 students have tested positive for COVID-19. Forty-two staff members and 575 students have been quarantined due to possible exposure.

The Lancaster High School football team has also been quarantined due to exposure to COVID-19.  Several members of the football team tested positive, according to officials.  A 16-year-old student died from COVID-19 three days before the first day of class.

“We’re doing everything we can possibly do to stay open and maintain a safe environment for students and staff,” says Dr. Jonathan Phipps, Superintendent of Lancaster County Schools.

“We contact trace, we put every mitigation measure in place we can,” says Lydia Quinn, Chief Operations Officer.

“We’re trying to limit indoor activities as much as possible, we’re encouraging mask wearing,” she says.

Lancaster County Schools have installed Ionizers for fresh air inside every air conditioner unit in the district.  They also installed touchless water fountains to refill bottles.
