Joey Slye’s Kicking Coach ‘Not Worried At All’ About His Job Security
CHARLOTTE, N.C. —Β The Panthers kicking competition took a new turn on Thursday. Carolina traded for kicker Ryan Santoso from the New York Giants in exchange for a conditional seventh round pick.
Santoso has never kicked a field goal in a regular season NFL game, but the 26 year old impressed the Giants this preseason, leading New York head coach Joe Judge to call Santoso one of the 32 best kickers in the NFL. With the addition of Santoso the Panthers waived Dominik Eberle who they signed earlier this week.
On Thursday the Panthers called Joey Slye into the facility for a rep which he drilled down the middle. according to Slye’s kicking coach Dan Orner.
Orner and Slye have remained in close contact this preseason while the Panthers kicker has struggled. Slye went 10/10 with Orner on Wednesday night.
Orner believes Slye will be able to put this rough patch behind him and get back to making kicks. “I’m not worried at all,” said Orner “And I look forward to watching him drop some bombs in the Panthers stadium.”
