Will Healy’s Son Eli Motivates Charlotte Ahead Of Season Opener

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The touchdown’s kept piling up last October when Charlotte traveled to Durham and was handed a 53-19 beatdown by the hands of the Blue Devils. It’s a game that still lives in the minds of the 49ers.

“When you go back and watch the film, it’s not a fun film to watch,” said Charlotte linebacker Luke Martin. “But you gotta go back and learn from your mistakes.”

As much as the team watches the film to learn from the game, Will Healy’s son Eli has taken it to a completely different level

“Eli, my six year old, taped the Duke game from last year,” said Healy. “And every time I walk in the house he’s watching us get blown out by Duke. And I’m like can you please stop watching this game. He’s like. No daddy, I’m going to have it on whenever you get home.”

Maybe it’s just Eli trying to keep his dad and the team on their toes.

β€œAnd I don’t know if this is a six year-olds way of trying to motivate me, but it’s definitely been frustrating watching an empty stadium and them score 60 on us.”

But it’s a new year now and Charlotte believes they’re much improved.

β€œWe’ve made a lot of strides, and you know they’re going to have the same chip on their shoulder to have a special season, and it’s a tremendous opportunity.”
