10th Annual Charlotte 9/11 Stair Climb At Truist Field Honors Fallen First Responders

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Participants of the 10th Annual Charlotte 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb gathered on Saturday to climb a total of 110 floors at Truist Field, equivalent to the height of each World Trade Center Tower.

Over 83 teams and 560 climbers registered for the memorial event at the home of the Knights on the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, with all proceeds benefiting the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

Officials say the event surpassed its fundraising goal of $25,000 as they currently have over $37,000 in donations.

Many participants climbed with full turn-out gear and air packs, adding an additional 60 pounds of weight, as they honored the 343 firefighters, 60 law enforcement personnel, and 10 EMS personnel who lost their lives during the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Participants completed this climb as a tribute to the first responders who died while climbing the World Trade Center Towers making rescues along the way, and each climber was given a lanyard and photograph of a first responder who died that day.

Officials say the event is not a race, but an opportunity to honor and remember those who selflessly gave their lives that fateful morning so that others might live.
