Improving Drought Conditions With More Rain On The Way

The severe drought has been dropped for the WCCB Charlotte area.

We have a chance to make another good dent in the drought monitor with widespread rain in the forecast on Sunday.

The latest drought monitor (valid January 4th) shows improving drought conditions across both North and South Carolina. North Carolina went from 41% of the state under a severe drought to now only 3% of the state.

The WCCB Charlotte area is still under abnormally dry and moderate drought conditions, but with widespread rain on the way Sunday drought conditions are expected to continue improving.

A cold front will swing across the Carolinas bringing widespread rain to the region Sunday PM. As of Friday evening this system will likely bring 0.50”-1 inch of rain to the area. No severe weather is expected.
