Preparations Underway in Iredell County For Winter Storm

STATESVILLE, NC. — Kent Greene with Iredell County Emergency Management says preparations are underway for the winter storm. They’re making sure all generators are fully fueled and making arrangements with Red Cross, Salvation Army, and churches to open shelters if necessary.

“We’ve made contact with all of the fire departments, rescue agencies, EMS, law enforcement checked on their needs. Make sure that they didn’t have any unmet needs,” says Greene.

He says their biggest concern is ice, but as tree limbs come down and the power goes out. Greene is asking people to be patient. It will be all hands on deck, but emergency crews are down some people because of covid.

“25% of the emergency management, fire marshal staff are out due to close contact or testing positive.”

He says roads in the area will be treated on Friday.
