Artist Registration Now Open For 2022 Foothills Folk Art Festival
NEWTON, N.C. — Calling all artists! Registration is officially open for the 2022 Foothills Folk Art Festival in downtown Newton.
The festival’s artist committee is looking for artwork intensely influenced by and displaying the spirit of folk, visionary, and outsider art.
The award-winning festival will be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 14th, and is made possible thanks to a partnership between Downtown Newton Development Association and Hickory Museum of Art.
Recognized as Special Event of the Year by N.C. Main Street & Rural Planning Center and as Hickory Daily Record’s Festival of the Year in 2018, the Foothills Folk Art Festival is described as a juried, folk-art themed show.
Officials say artists who were juried in for the postponed October 2021 festival do not need to reapply.
All other artists must submit to the jurying process regardless of whether or not they have participated in previous years.
To be considered, artists are asked to submit an application form here.
Officials say the application must be accompanied by three to five images of individual pieces of the artist’s work.
These images should represent the type of art that the artist plans to sell at the festival.
Artists are also encouraged to submit a photo of their booth if possible.
Officials say a registration fee of $75 is also required to apply, and that fee will be refunded if the artist is not accepted into the festival.
Applications should be mailed to Hickory Museum of Art, Attn: Clarissa Starnes, 243 Third Avenue NE, Hickory, NC 28601.
Applications may also be emailed to cstarnes@hickoryart.org.
Officials ask potential artists to please make checks payable to Foothills Folk Art Festival.
No applications will be accepted via the festival Facebook page.
Artists may obtain more information about the festival, and an application form, from Hickory Museum of Art by contacting Clarissa Starnes at cstarnes@hickoryart.org or by calling 828-327-8576, ext. 210.
