NCDOT Awards $4 Million Contract To Replace Cabarrus County Bridge

MOUNT PLEASANT, N.C. — The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a $4 million dollar contract to replace a deteriorating bridge in Cabarrus County.

The project to replace the bridge on N.C. 73 over Dutch Buffalo Creek, just outside of Mount Pleasant, was awarded to NJR Group, Inc. of Albemarle.

The bridge was originally built in 1920, reconstructed in 1952, and officials say the new bridge will be built north of the existing bridge with three travel lanes, each 12 feet wide and with 4-foot-wide shoulders on either side.

Officials say the contractor will begin work as soon as mid-March and will open the bridge to traffic by August 2023.

Traffic will be maintained on N.C. 73 during construction, but lane closures will be needed at times, according to a news release.
