Faces Of The Big South: Presbyterian’s Trinity Johnson

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Hercules Tires Big South Basketball Championship is less than a month away, and one of the schools in the hunt for a title is Presbyterian. Senior guard Trinity Johnson hopes to end the season on a high note.

“The old saying goes, last year, best year. I’m trying to do what I came here to do, and that’s to win the Big South,” said Johnson.

Earning a title is always what Johnson has had her sights on, but when she came to Presbyterian, she wasn’t a star player.

“Coming in as a freshman in 2018, I had a lot of people doubting me, and you know I used that as motivation to do more and be leaving an impact at the school,” said Johnson.

Through hard work and persistence, Johnson made a name for herself on the team. She has a lot more confidence now than she did as a freshman.

“I’m pretty quick, not to brag on myself, but I’m pretty quick,” said Johnson. “If I can get by my defender, not only does that help me out, but my other teammates,” Johnson said.

Being a leader and a good teammate is what matters most to Johnson.

“I’m really team-oriented. I could have the best game of my life, but if I see one of my teammates not performing at the best that I know they can be, that kind of takes a toll on me,” said Johnson. “Being a leader on this team, I demand more and more for my teammates every day.”

Johnson is close to reaching 1,000 career points, and she wants to hit that mark before the end of the season.

“It shows that I’ve got people’s attention now. This being my last year, I’m trying to leave the biggest impact I possibly can.”
