CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Residents in select locations of the city will be alerted about raccoons that tested positive for rabies.
Charlotte Animal Care and Control (AC &C) stated in a news release that residents living with the 28273 and 28227 zip codes will be alerted of infected raccoons in the area.
According to officials with AC&C, both cases included exposure to pet dogs in the area however, no human exposure was detected. Both dogs were up-to-date on their rabies vaccine and only need a booster shot to combat the infection.
Police say the two cases have no correlation and the raccoons were found 17 miles away from each other, making them the fourth and fifth animals to test positive for rabies in Mecklenburg County this year.
