Wonderful Warm Weekend Awaits

Spring still has about two months left in its tank, but a taste of summer arrives this weekend.

Happy Earth Day! Temperatures are hovering in the mid-to-lower 80s this Friday afternoon, setting the tone for a summer-like stretch ahead. A vigorous area of high pressure continues its dominance over the Southeast, pumping in warm air while keeping rain chances at bay. Expect highs in the mid-80s for both weekend days before temperatures take another step higher on Monday. Some spots southeast of Charlotte may crack 90° for the first time all year to start the workweek.

Rain chances return to the forecast on Tuesday. Depending on the timing of the cold front, we could top out in the 80s once again. The incoming rainmaking system could bring a few strong storms to the Carolinas on Tuesday, but the overall severe threat remains low for now. Sunshine and cooler air arrive for the back half of the week ahead, but Piedmont highs should remain above 70°.
