Charlotte Yard Waste Pickup Schedule Delayed Due To Staffing Shortages

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The City of Charlotte announced a delay in yard waste collection due to staffing shortages on Wednesday.

Officials advise residents to put their yard waste at the curb on their regular collection day and to leave it there until it is collected.

Garbage and recycling collection services are not delayed and are operating on a normal schedule, according to a news release.

Officials say residents also have the option of getting rid of their yard waste by taking their items in paper bags or reusable containers to one of the four Mecklenburg County full-service recycling centers.

(Mecklenburg County may charge fees when disposing at the full-service centers).

Residents are also encouraged to register for Solid Waste Services text messages to get up-to-the-minute collection service notices.

Officials say residents who would like to get updates regarding impacts to their collection service can text their day of service to 73224.

In addition, Solid Waste Services recently held open interviews to fill 20 collection driver vacancies.

Officials say 17 drivers are scheduled to start in the next two weeks, which will allow yard waste collection to resume on-time.

Solid Waste Services will host two additional interviews on May 10th and May 24th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Otts Street.

Interested applicants can view the job posting and apply for the position at the city’s online employment center.
