Soggy Tuesday, Drying Out Into Thanksgiving
Rain totals will likely end up between 1-3" for most through Wednesday afternoon.
Our Tuesday morning is off to a soggy start, and it’s only going to get wetter throughout the day. A moisture-laden rainmaking is pushing in from the northwest, bringing widespread shower coverage throughout the day. A few rumbles of thunder are also possible as a powerful cold front slices through our area by the evening. A low-end severe threat may also crop up around this timeframe. Localized heavy rainfall over 3″ is the main threat, but gusty winds and even a weak spin-up are possible with the front’s arrival. Much drier air filters in behind the system, but a sluggish upper-level low may provide enough energy for a few showers during the early afternoon on Wednesday. The Queen City should dry out in time for the Novant Health Thanksgiving Eve Parade in Uptown Wednesday evening.
Despite the clouds and showers, highs should crack 60° both Tuesday and Wednesday in and around the Metro. Mother Nature will offer a cornucopia of sunshine for our Thanksgiving Thursday, although we’ll be noticeably cooler in the 40s and 50s. We’ll need to watch for another weak rainmaking system from the southwest as we head into Friday, but it shouldn’t amount to much. The weekend ahead is looking sunny with near-average temperatures approaching 60°.
