Sunshine Stretches Through Workweek

After a warm Monday, temperatures return to below-normal values by midweek.

After topping out at 72° on Sunday, it’s suffice to say it doesn’t feel like December. Above-average temperatures continue into our Monday as plentiful sunshine allows for highs in the 50s and 60s. Don’t expect the warmth to last long. Winds out of the northwest will drop highs back into the 30s, 40s, and 50s by midweek as another cold front arrives on Wednesday. Despite the approaching system, rain chances remain minimal in the Piedmont through the workweek. The High Country will see scattered snow showers on Tuesday and Wednesday, but most communities will end up with under an inch of the white stuff. Locations above 4500′ may see upwards of 1-3″; great news for ski resorts enjoying their first week.

Highs will bottom out near 50° around the Piedmont and Foothills on Wednesday before recovering through the second half of the week. Our next chance for significant rain arrives vy the end of the weekend. We’ll need to watch this incoming system closely for the potential for severe weather. Weekend highs will likely end up in the 50s and 60s before sharply dropping off into next week.
