Temperatures Rebound, Tracking Storms Sunday
The overall severe threat is low on Sunday, but we'll need to stay weather-wise.
We’re waking up to the coldest morning we’ve seen in all of December so far, but temperatures only rise into the weekend. Winds out of the south and west will allow temperatures to rebound into the upper 40s and 50s across the WCCB Charlotte viewing area for the penultimate afternoon of the workweek. Highs will likely crack the 60s around the Metro on Friday despite building clouds throughout the day. The temperature incline continues into the weekend; the Queen City may even flirt with the 70s ahead of a powerful rainmaking system that arrives on Sunday.
Rain chances largely hold off until Saturday night. The incoming system is poised to spawn a severe outbreak across the Mid-South and Deep South on Saturday, but will significantly weaken as it treks over the Appalachian Mountains. Even still, we’ll want to stay weather-wise for a few strong storms packing lightning, heavy rain, and gusty winds on Sunday. A quick spin-up tornado isn’t quite out of the question for areas south and east of Charlotte, either. Widespread shower and storm activity will taper overnight Sunday into Monday. Rain totals will end up between a half-inch and an inch-and-a-half through Monday morning. The start of next week is looking sunny and cool.
