Comfortable Christmas Weekend Ahead

Widespread rain will impact your Christmas Day plans, but severe weather is off the table for our area.

Happy Friday! The Charlotte area managed to crack 60Β° on the first day of winter yesterday after a string of frigid days to start the workweek. Our newfound warmth will stick around into the holiday weekend. Mostly cloudy skies will carry through the morning, but more sunshine and blue sky should erupt across our half of the Carolinas by the afternoon as highs top out in the 50s and 60s. Expect two more bright days for our Saturday and Sunday as temperatures warm another five degrees across the board. Unfortunately, Santa may get a little wet as he takes flight.

Rain chances are on the rise as we head into Christmas Day. While highs should largely remain consistent in the 40s, 50s, and lower 60s, clouds and widespread rain push into the Carolinas by Monday afternoon. While Santa’s big day will be soggy, severe weather is off the table for our area. Most communities will see anywhere between a half-inch and two inches through Boxing Day Tuesday before the rain clears out by Wednesday morning. Cooler and drier air should carry us into the new year after the moisture exits to the northeast.
