Rebuilding: New Renderings Released After 3 Alarm Fire Destroyed Parts Of Charlotte Preparatory School

The Latest:

School officials release new renderings of Charlotte Preparatory School less than a year after a massive fire destroyed part of the school.

Pictures show the cleanup process, modular installation, moving in the new classrooms, what the modular classrooms look like today, and finally, the renderings and floor plans for the new building.

Officials say the designs are not yet final, but construction is scheduled to begin in the Spring.

Background information on the “Come Back Story”

Just days after the fire, school leadership say they focused their attention on the immediate needs of current students, faculty, and staff at Charlotte Prep. School leadership quickly began to develop plans for a new Lower School building that had to be rebuilt immediately, according to a news release. In October 2023, the Board of Trustees approved initial plans to build back the Lower School bigger and better.

The proposed 24,000-square-foot, two-story facility will be twice as large and include the following features and more:

  1. 10 Large, 950-square foot classrooms for the K-4 classes as well as offices for the Head of Lower School and assistant, which will allow for all Lower School classrooms to be housed in the same building for the first time
  2. Larger, more functional, and welcoming spaces for the school counselor and learning support specialist that will provide students with a warm and inviting space for support and enrichment
  3. A newly created collaboration space for teachers to facilitate cross-disciplinary and innovative curriculum
  4. Β A new, larger, multi-use dining hall to serve the entire school for meals, as well as a potential event space

“In addition to uniting our entire lower school in a new state-of-the-art building, the new space will house a much larger cafeteria, collaborative workspaces, student support offices, and more. This is truly a transformative moment in our school’s history.”Β
