Messy Start to Workweek
Heavy rain and wind gusts approaching 40 mph are the main threats on Monday, but an isolated spin-up tornado can't be ruled out.
The weather isn’t exactly superb for our Super Bowl Sunday, but it could get a lot worse – and it will. The stalled front that has plagued our forecast with rain and clouds throughout the weekend will finally get moving, but will leave us with a messy Monday as a parting gift. The good news is that most of the incoming showers and storms won’t be severe. The bad news is that heavy rain, strong wind gusts, and even a weak spin-up tornado are all on the table as we kick off the workweek. Prepare for significant impacts on both sides of your Monday commute. Most communities will end up with roughly an inch of rain through Tuesday morning, but locally higher amounts are possible. The overall severe threat is low, but will be higher the farther south one goes of I-85.
Lovely weather sets up shop behind this system for our Valentine’s Week. Highs will top out near 60Β° for our Valentine’s Eve and Valentine’s Day as stiff breezes from the northwest eventually settle down by Cupid’s big night. A few snow showers are also possible in the High Country on Tuesday, although significant accumulations aren’t expected. Highs will roar back into the mid-to-upper 60s by the end of the week, accompanied by abundant and friendly southerly winds. Next weekend is trending rainy and cooler.
