Severe Weather Preparedness Week: Have an Emergency Plan
Severe Weather Preparedness week continues across the Carolinas this week. It is important to make sure that you have a plan and know what to do in case of severe weather or a natural disaster that forces you to shelter in place or evacuate. It is also important to build an emergency kit with your family.
How to Prepare:
- Items to include in your kit:
- Non-perishable food (enough for 72 hours)
- Can opener if you have canned goods
- Water (one gallon per person per day)
- Flashlights with extra batteries
- Medications
- First-aid kit
- Back-up battery
- Extra Clothing
- Rain Jacket
- Sneakers
- Charging Bank and Charging Cords
- Cash in case of power outage
- Maps (if you lose cell service)
- Sanitary Items (toothpaste, deoderant, body wipes)
- Pet supplies
- Diapers and Formula if you have a baby
- Weather Radio
- Copy of Important Documents
- Birth Certicates
- Marriage License
- Social Security Number
- Insurance Information
- Vaccination Records for Pets
